Maybe you might want to consider replacing the 65 year old electrolytic caps
too!  I would highly suggest you ohm out all the carbon resistors.  You will
find MANY of them have gone up considerably in value way out of tolerence.
More then likely a couple of mica caps are bad too.  Check the wires.  The
cloth covered wire can rot too.  This is a very very difficult radio to
restore as there are layers of wiring and parts on top of one another.
Check all the tube socket ground connections and make sure the resistance is
next to zero.  Tighten ground screws and tighten ground rivits.  If you only
changed out paper caps, you have a LONG way to go before you should start
thinking of mods!   Have you used Deoxit on all the tube sockets and
grounding points on the variable cap?  Have you replaced any bad tubes?
Have you thought about a total realighnment of the radio?  It probably needs
one after 65 years.  You need to get the radio back to spec before you start
thinking of mods.  Personally, I would forget mods.  Why would you want to
do that to a 65 year old radio?
