If I am not mistaken, someone just answered this question recently
either here or in QST. The person said he always cleaned
His caps in the dishwasher and then oiled the bearings afterwards.
Supposed to come out real clean. I would however, try
A cap you don't need before attempting this.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Help with restoring the shine to tuning
capacitors

Greetings to everyone,

I am in the middle of a restoration of an SX-99 Mark 1B. Here is
my
issue:

I need a way to clean and polish the variable tuning capacitors of the
main tuning, band spread, and antenna trimmer. The chassis, coils, and
electrolytic cylinder, until I trashed it, please see other email, look
better then new!!! The caps are the issue. Does anyone have a technique,
chemicals, etc that will allow me to restore those variable capacitors
back to their original luster???

Thanks for the info in advance,

Regards,
Douglas Kearney N5LBJ
