[Hallicrafters] HP 606A

There was a thread awhile back on the 606A frequency generator. I recall it said that if one left it on the higher power setting for a extended, bad things would happen. Well, I don't recall leaving it on a long time but I guess it's all relative. Anyway, the last few times I tried to use it, it would power up ok but almost immediately both the output meter and output drop to zero. The modulation appears to be working but it don't do a lot of good without rf attached. Does anyone remember the culprit. I would like to have a educated idea of where to start short of working back from the output connector.
