It is interesting to note the SX-110/ S-108 series can trace their lineage
back to the SX-99/ S-85 as Glen mentioned but also to the S-40 before that which
was really the old S-20R with updated styling. The SX-99 is really an S-85
with s-meter and crystal filter I think. I always thought the S-20R might have
been the hands down winner in 1939 to offer the most performance for the least
amount of money spent. Just think about it; 9 tube performance including an RF
stage and two stages of IF, a self contained transformer operated power
supply, built in speaker, a calibrated main tuning dial with weighted inertia
tuning, electrical bandspread, illuminated dials, bandswitching .545 to 44MC,
Dickert noise limiter and 3 position tone control all for $49.50!
Regards, Greg
