[Hallicrafters] SX-100 AVC question

  My SX-100 Mk 2 gets much louder when I switch off the AVC. For instance, if I set 
the RF gain (Sensitivity) at 10 and then switch off the AVC, I need to reduce the RF 
gain to around 7.5 to 8 to get a comparable signal level. Is this normal behavior for 
an SX-100 or do I have an AVC issue? I kinda expected it to be the opposite. What 
say you SX-100 owners?
