[Hallicrafters] 1939: The Price Line

I've been collecting Halli receivers for about two years now. I've managed to pile-up quite a few so far. I've noticed that models manufactured prior to 1939 are priced 3-4 times higher than the ones made after. I can only assume that the company made fewer units, but there's certainly quite a few models from 34-39. Is this an acurate assumption on my part? I'm sure the real early models had depression-era considerations.
Also, after the S-1,2,3,4 receivers (and the unobtainable SX-88) which models are the rarist and worth the most dough? The reason I ask is I want to buy an S-14 Sky Chief in excellent condition and I'd like to know it's approximate value. I have the older version of Chuck Dachis' book and I usually double his price guide listings. However, I've never seen a Sky Chief for sale anywhere. I missed a "pristine" SX-9 at Dayton this year and I'm still worried sick over that one....hi!
If you can make heads or tells of this query, please shed some light on the subject for me.
Much appreciated and 73, Y'all....Mark-K8ZW
