[Hallicrafters] S-53A

It is a bit of a joke, but Rich Arland in his QRP book has linked up the
S53 to the HT-18 vfo/exciter (see LOW POWER COMMUNICATION, page 8-5,
published by the ARRL). The HT-18 running in “barefoot VFO mode” can do
a few watts, so it seems to be Hallicrafters “QRP twins.” I have the
duo, but not yet set up to run yet. I am going to need an antenna
switch of some kind. I got some stuff to rig it with, but so far too
lazy or distracted to do so.

Does anyone have experience using the S53 as a ham receiver? It seems to
be only a pretty good communication receiver about like a S-120. It
might be a challenge to actually operate the “Hallicrafter QRP Twins.”
