All radios sold in Canada up to 1953 had this notice. It was required in
Canada (
like much of Europe) that one have a licence in order to use a radio
receiver. The
annual fee for this licence was $1 in the 1920's and over the years increased
to $3 by the time that this requirement was done away with in 1953. I
believe that
crystal sets as well as sets used by the legally blind, in schools and
the military
were exempt.
The fact that the notice above refers to Her Majesty instead of His
Majesty means
that it was made in 1952 or 1953 (after the present Queen Elizabeth II
became Queen
upon the death of her father King George VI in Feb 1952 and before the license
was done away with in late 1953).
