Hello to the group. I was bitten by the glow bug station of days long passed. My son, Justin VA2WTF (18 years old) thinks the older radios have character and class and is helping me.
1. I have a very good condition and working S-53A. I'm thinking of replacing all the capacitors, and some resistors in the receiver. Many persons have refered to the Orange drop caps. Who makes them, and are there any notes from someone who has does this before?
2. I plan on replacing the rectifier with a solid state rectifier tube replacement. Any comments of who has done this before?
3. I plan on replacing the # 47 pilot lamps with LEDS (per article in QST) Goal is to reduce current draw from the transformer.
Any help is greatly appreciated, and if any one has a HT-18 for sale, please let me know.
