I recommend you change the line cord to a 3-wire with a safety ground.
Thanks Ed... Yup, I've worked on another AC/DC radio and am aware of the
shock hazards. My first shocking experience was in 1961 with a Clarion broadcast
radio. Luckily, I'm still here to say that I didn't learn the first time.
However, after the third time, I was more careful. I was young and stupid at 11
years.
Thanks to all who replied to my request for assistance. I have solved the
12K8 issue after another look at the RCA tube manual base diagram, and the
schematic base diagram. I had the pins reversed between 6 and 8. But, the primary
of T1 (lower side on schematic) still doesn't connect directly to pin 4 (
grids 2&4HX ). It does connect, but through a 5K resistor, and this is not shown
on my EC-1 schematic. There is also a .02 cap at pin 4 to ground which
doesn't show on my schematic.
I also noticed that pin 6 ( Plate T ) does have an extra wire on it that goes
nowhere. The main wire off of that pin does go to the oscillator primary
selection switch. Have no idea of what the other wire was used for unless it was
some kind of gimmick capacitor?? It doesn't appear on my schematic either,
but the wire appears to be original.
If you have a schematic that shows these additional parts/changes, I would
certainly like to take a look at it.
Thanks,
Joe ( WJ5MH )
