Nebraska Sales has the transformer you need. I purchased one from them
for an SX-17. It has all the taps you need and will handle 20 watts.

I need to provide an 8ohm output from my SX42 (instead of the 500 or
5,000 ohm output). Given that old hallicrafters spkrs are beyond budget
there seems to be 2 choices;
-connect a 500 (or 5k) to 8 ohm xfmr to the existing speaker output
or
-replace the 6,000ohm CT to 500 & 5k existing xfmr with a 6k CT to 8 ohm
xfmr
Looking for:
-advice on the best choice
and
-a good source for the xfmrs (the only source I've found that's close is
"Tubes and More" and they only have a 8,000 CT to 8 ohm but the cost is
about $34.00 US (almost $50 Canadian)
Your suggestions and advice are appreciated.
