[Hallicrafters] HT-37 power xfmr longevity

I go along with Glen's 2 recommendations, see my site also:

particularly the page on HT-37 - the HT-37 power supply info

I don't think it's so much how much or long you use the rig, it's more a
question of what's it's history? Particularly in respect to storage time
and conditions - e.g. time, heat, humidity. Then when it comes out of
storage how it's reconditioned with respect to eliminating the moisture
that has accumulated in the windings. After all, most of these rigs have
been stored, or at least have sat, unused for varying times, often long
periods in a basement or attic. I've had an HT-37, an SX-101, and an
SX-42 lose their xfmrs after an unknown time of unuse, and probably a too
short (but not ignored) reconditioning period. In the case of the SX-42,
it shorted out after many hours of relatively short periods of use during
refurbishment, so maybe it just hit it's limit of use, who knows.

how long the "average" HT-37 power transformer can go along doing its
thing "safely" before it needs to be re-wound?

The horror stories I hear of the damage that occurs when the
power xfmr shorts out, etc. due to old age is my basis for concern.
