[Hallicrafters] SX-28A OR NOT A "A"

I just got a very nice sx-28a but there is something confusing about it. the
front panel has the "a" and it has the fuse on the back and a extra fuse
holder on the chassis but the rf alignment section is the old sx-28 style.
did Hali make a early version of the "a" or did someone go though alot of
trouble to change the panel and put a fuse? the latter makes no sense to me.
anyone have any ideas? Dan
