Sandy, W5TVW is correct in that Collins (KWM2 ) had some limitations.  One
that was a problem for CW ops was the lack of sidetone.  For Dx operators
the maximum range was only about 100Kcs before the receiver preselector was
out of range and a S9 signal dropped to S1 or 2.  This was also a problem
with the S-Line using the receiver and transmitter and transceiving
plus listening split.  I remember K5QNF using the 75S1 and 32S1 on field day
one year and only partially muting the receiver so he had sidetone.  The
owner was livid!
