In terms of the 6146B type replacing the
6146/6146A/8298:  Sometimes it works, most of the time
it doesn't!  You have to see if they will neutralize. 
If they won't neutralize, or if the neutralization
doesn't stay put, then you really need to go back to
the 6146/6146A/8298 series tubes and not the
6146B/8298A.

Also, even the  transmitters introduced after the
6146B came out if they were not designed for the 6146B
(and most were not), then you can definitely have
problems.
