Hello from NIST.
NIST was NOT trying to determine if the transmissions should be kept going.
NIST was conducting the survey as part of a normal process of keeping in
touch with it's users and customer base. The transmissions and the funding
were NOT in danger of being cut.
The 25 mc frequency was dropped years ago due to lack of use and also
technical difficulties from propagation at that frequency that made the
transmissions pretty much useless.
