Steve I've found that Halli paints vary quite a bit in the black.
Never repainted a SX 42 but others. Some had a faint metallic hue.
Anyway, Semi Flat black by Krylon does a nice job.

Dull Aluminum is a really close match to the original for the lid.
I emersed one lid in MEK solvent and let it soak. Watch the 
environmental cautions.
