Hi Al Parker, Ed Richards, et al,
I want to especially thank Al for helping me sort out the alignment
of my SX-42. Ed's suggestion on checking the position of the
bandspread capacitor got us (Al and I) on the right track. I was
having trouble with the band 1 (540 - 1620 kc) alignment at 1500 kc.
Well it turns out I had set the bandspread capacitors at a logical
position (against the stop) and centered the "set here" reading of the
dial on the shaft. However this left the bandspread capacitor plates
10 to 20 percent still engaged. The b.s. plates should be set fully
disengaged. After making that adjustment, alignment adjusted properly.
This was after four months of checking values, changing components and
becoming frustrated and setting the project aside several times. It's
funny how success erases all the pain felt during the "fun" (Al's
comment).
    Thanks again fellows.
