Roger, don't feel bad! I just had the same thing happen to me within the
past couple of weeks with a 40-Gig drive running XP Pro. The drive
(fairly new Maxtor) failed. On it, I had stored several hundreds of $$$
of software in addition to all my mail folders. However, once my new
replacement arrived from Maxtor, I successfully slaved the damaged drive
and completely retrieved ALL my valuables without loosing anything! The
minute the last folder completed transferring, the damaged drive
completely died! Talk about luck!
I definitely feel your pain!

73's,
