Hi Ken and Halli-ites,

The venerable SX-25 was my first receiver and I still own it. In fact,
because of my SX-25 roots I have somewhat of a fetish for it and have owned
probably 8 or 10 other ones over the years. Right now I am down to 3. Sigh.
Anyway, Band 4 covered 15-42 megacycles and, yes, sensitivity was not
as good as on the other bands on ANY I have owned...even post alignment. One
time I posed the question to a ham who said he believed that the SX-25 was
designed for the war effort and built them with improved sensitivity on band
3 due to then-military spec. This had to be done as a sacrifice to
performance on Band 4.
I am not sure I really believe this as I have owned many similar
vintage receivers that were firecrackers on all bands, low as well as high.
It is probably fair to not expect the highest band to be as hot as the
lower bands...after all...even the improved superhets of the 1960s tended to
fall off on their top bands.
All in all, the Super Defiant is a great piece of gear and if you
obtain one you will enjoy it thoroughly.
