tnxs to those who answered my questions about pin voltages and meters.
my s-38c was a cute little radio, volume not good, but i was thinking those
poor s.o.b's in the fifties must have needed good hearing to listen to
weaker stations.
i measured the pin voltages with a digital meter and found a low voltage on
the plate of v3, det/audio. this pin was connected thru a 220kohm resistor
to b+.. measured the resistor, no reading. i had a radio(??) shack 220kohm
1/2 watt on hand, so snip, solder and turn radio back on.
wow! i can hear it now! even heard a 1kw mw station in south alabama, abt
400 miles from me.
those poor sob's in the fifties had a nice little radio, now so do i.
BTW, thanks doug for the saftey tip for AA5's. will definitly get my radios
up to speed. very revealing
