Tim,
The SX-28 is a very nice receiver, referred to as the Super Skyrider. The
radio was introduced in the very early 1940's. It had six bands, covering
from 540-kc through 43-mc. It had two stages of preselection, high
fidelity, push-pull audio, and band pass audio filter, among many other
features. A matching speaker for the receiver is the PM-23.
I have owned one of these for about two years, and will never part with it.
It is definately one of my favorite Hallicrafters receivers, right up there
with my S19 and 20R and SX-101A.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Tell me about the SX-28
> Hi folks -
> I won't receive my Chuck Duchis Hallicrafters book until February
(through Amazon) so in the mean time I wonder if someone could fill me in on
the SX-28. Having just received and about to fully condition a little S-53A
I think I've caught a bad bug.
> My eye is continually caught by the SX-28. I have seen three cover panels
but the one that attracts me is an almost black metal with a rough hewn
surface - something about that look just grabs me. The other front panels I
have seen are a light grey whcih is far less appealing.
> Can you tell me about the current availability, in general, of that
model and what price range they would command? How much do they weigh? Is
there a recommended external matching speaker? When restored how do they
sound? What are some important considerations in brinking this model "back
to life"? Is it a "dumb" choice out of all of the Hallicrafters? Any good
restoration sites dealing with this model? All info and history would be
welcome.
