I would tend to agree with Dave on this. If your goal is to get the receiver 
good enough for fairly reliable regular service without making a major 
project out of it you could probably get by with replacing only the critical 
caps. These would be the (1) power supply filter caps, (2) plate and screen 
bypass caps and (3) RF coupling caps. Leaky bypass caps will overload the 
high voltage winding of your power transformer and drag the B+ down below 
normal operating level and leaky coupling caps will allow B+ to get on the 
control grids numbing the sensitivity. Of course most folks would agree it's 
best to replace them all along without of tolerance resistors followed by a 
careful alignment for best results if optimum electrical restoration is your 
goal. The best tip I ever received for this kind of work is to get a good 
desoldering gun. I bought a Goot which has a trigger operated continuous 
vacuum source. It is nice to be able to quickly extract all the old solder 
from a joint to get the leads unwrapped without wrestling with them and 
burning everything with too much heat. It is much easier to get professional 
looking lead dress now.
