[Hallicrafters] SX-28A Recapping

Hi Mike - did the radio work before you started recapping it? My SX-28
worked fine and after reading what was involved in recapping the RF
compartment, I decided to leave it alone and have a root canal instead
(tongue in cheek!). From looking at the schematic, the caps in that
section of the radio do not see the voltages and currents that they see
in other circuits so they are not as prone to failure.

I recapped mine 2 years ago and it plays almost every day for at least
4-6 hours listening to short wave and the broadcast band while I am
working. No problems at all and works great. Is the sensitivity OK? I
have never measured but have no problems hearing Europeans on 10 meters
here in Arizona when the band is open. Getting the radio to stay on
frequency initially when listening to CW...well that is another story
until it has warmed up

This is my opinion and you may not get the same response from others.
