I picked up an R-44 - ARR-5 in a trade a while back. It is just too
interesting a receiver to just let it sit there. I understand that it
was designed to be used in military aircraft for radio surveillance. It
covers 28 to 144 Mhz. and was a repackaged SX-36. The little unit is
very clean inside and might have never been used. It has a motor driven
tuning arrangement but can be manually tuned. It could be used with a
panadapter. I have the information downloaded from the BAMA site.

I was wondering if anyone might have had any actual experience with this
unit and what aircraft it was used in. I have an idea that it might
have been intended to be used in sub chasing or something like that. I
thought this might be an interesting topic for discussion on the
reflector.
