Good day gentlemen

Once again I seek the wisdom of the wise sages that dwell on this website. I make it a habit to give all of my Hallicrafters rigs a good thirty minute workout at least once a month, for obvious reasons. Last month I turned on my SX-42 and almost immediately it gave off the sound of a package of firecrackers (from inside the cabinet) , lasting perhaps ten seconds. Thinking that the radio was toast, I listened to see if it worked. It worked on all bands, so I let it run and put it away for another month. Tonight I turned it on once again and once again it made the same firecracker sounds. Still runs on all bands. Is this a prelude of "things to come". I would appreciate hearing from any of you that can shed some light on this. The radio has been totally recapped. The only thing I could think of is the dreaded "band switch" syndrome. Thanks in advance for any help.

regards,
