CW is at full power, AM is at about 12 watts carrier
output (sometimes a little more). The SSB generation
is phasing which definitely sounds better than the
more normal filter method (which is used on all rigs
these days and in most boat anchors as well). You
have to "fiddle" with the phasing controls when you
first turn on the rig. Then, it sounds very good.
The HT-37 definitely is not what you need for a good
AM transmitter! For SSB, it will work fine.
It has been some time since I owned an HT-37 but I
worked on one just a few months back.

I'm mainly interested in it for its AM and CW
capabilities. I'd really appreciate an honest
appraisal of its strong points and short comings and
anything I should look out for besides the usual old
caps and out of tolerance resistors.
