[Hallicrafters] SX 42 or SX 28

Hi all,
I responded to Andy privately, because I had a little extra to say
that I didn't care to share (that's what the "reply" button is for). But
I'll post my direct info here for all:
 As
for availability and prices, if you're not in a hurry, and have hamfests
in your area, it is possible to find 28's & 42's there at reasonable
prices if you dig for them. I've bought 2 28's that way, as low as
$50-75, in the past few yrs (dirty & needing lots of attn, or course).
But that's not a frequent happening. I
don't think I saw any of either at Shelby this yr. I'd say it's probably
possible to get one from somebody on the boatanchor lists, or Halli.
lists, in restorable condx, probably in the $100-200 range. Yard sales
are a possibility if you have many of them. I got my first SX-42 that
way, for abt $50, and a speaker as well. I have recently paid abt $100
for an SX-62 with a bad pwr xfmr. The 62 is almost identical to the 42
electrically.

I have been interested in restoring a vintage receiver for some time but
recently my sights have narrowed to two candidates: The SX 42 and the SX
28. My question is this: what is a fair price for an unrestored but
in reasonable condition example of either of these radios? Thanks!
