[Hallicrafters] How do you ship boatanchors?

UPS will ship it for an extra charge. I would get THEM to package it-if
they will. Hard to complain about something they did to themselves-in case
of a claim. THE way to do it is to package it inside an expanded foam
shell. They put the unit inside a plastic bag. They then sort of hold it
above the bottom of the shipping box, and fill in all the space with the
foam (which itself is inside a bag within the box.) Peanuts are USELESS
with an 80 lb package. You MUST double box it if you don't use the foam,
with 4 inches foam-board-filler in each box.
Go to Home Depot and buy a couple of sheets of the hard foam stuff they use
to insulate walls.
1) Put the unit in a heavy-duty plastic bag;
2) Take your inner box and add 4 inches of cut-to-match foam all
around the unit-meaning there should be 4 inches of the stuff in any
direction. 3) Seal that box.
4) Do the same thing again with a second, preferably VERY
Heavy-Duty box to enclose the 1st box.
5) Seal that one.
Sometimes UPS won't insure something they haven't packed/or seen. You might
check first... on the other hand, sometimes it's easier to be forgiven than
to get permission. I worked it that way when I shipped my R-390 (in three
pieces) to (mainland) China. See the story at:
<http://www.qsl.net/n4xy/latest_news1.html> and even better:
<http://www.qsl.net/n4xy/RCVR_Chinese_Army.html>. They (the USPS) didn't
want to open up the great packaging job my shipping place did.
Make CERTAIN the addresses are indelible, and won't come off.
Good Luck.
