Here is an email I just received from the ARRL President about the Spam problem:

"First let  me say that most of the above is inaccurate. We did have some
failures three years ago but now that is all fixed. Second we are not
considering turning it off.
Third, we do use an outside service for the dot net. We are trying a number of
things to help with the  "Spam" but as mentioned in the original message, there
are some pretty clever address grabbing programs being used by the spamers. I
noted that the Republic of Nigeria Spam almost always uses Yahoo to broadcast
the "fabulous deals."

"I am sure that Don Duran at HQ would be willing to listen to any reasonable
idea that would improve the dot net service."
