I still use the same address I've used for the last 7 years.
It is posted at the top of my home page. I also subscribe to nearly 34
newsgroups and post to most of them.
Until last Fall I received little spam. I always use a valid address when
posting and as I said, it's posted on a well used home page. I think I upset
some one when I made statements like that and started receiving a lot of
Korean based spam. Most of it was of the valid type...stores...car
sales...financial stuff...not much of the colorful stuf that sometimes shows
up. So, I think some one went out using my address and signed up for a
bunch of stuff.

After seven years, I still have not found this necessary.

Again, I've found it to not be a big problem.
Since last Fall my spam has about trippled, but that only about 20 a day and
it sure beats having to haul it out to the curb as with junk snail mail.
I set up filters to move the spam to a spam file.
I just took a look and it's dropped off to about 30 for the past week.
Now as to viruses...that's different.
I received over 250 last year. Never had a problem with any of them though.
If you receive viruses it's more than likely from some one who had you in
their address book. Their computer becomes infected and sends copies of
itself to every one in the address book. In most cases the user doesn't
know they are even infected. Many actually think it's just Windows crappy
stability. (I was able to trace most back to the specific computer using
"tracert"
More often than not the viruses come from some one with which you converse,
or those who forget to change the settings on Outlook, or outlook express to
NOT put the address of every e-mail sent into the address book
automatically.
