Recently saw the thread on packing go by again.
Here's my nickels worth (used to be 2 cents but with inflation, well-------)
I have been using both foam rubber and plastic peanuts with equal sucess.
Get a number of medium size heavy plastic bags, or nest 3 0r 4 of the
grocery store bags. Fill with peanuts or foam (cut the foam into 3 to 4 inch
squares or odd shapes with an electric knife) and tape shut.
Form pillows of this type. Put them in the bottom and all sides of the item.
The bags keep the material from shifting or settling. I shipped a 110 lb
transmitter in a computer monitor box (double walled box) and it traveled
without a scratch. If you are shipping something with glass dials kak SX62,
SX101 etc protect the face with a padded piece of thin plywood or aluminum
or scrap plastic. NO cardboard, it is to easily bent or penetrated.
Over the past several years I have sold a lot of consignment test equipment
on the dreaded E-place. I have never had a piece of equipment damaged, and
it was all packed this way, including some high dollar scopes that went over
seas. My feedbaack frequently mentions the excelent packing. What more can I
say.
