Just finished alignment of the 1650 khz IF with great results.
Now looking at the underside of the chassis, I see 4-5 paper caps that are
cracked on the ends and/or noisy to the touch. Numerous black beauties
look just fine to the eye.
Not being a purist, I just want to replace what is bad or going bad, and/or
likely to fail. So I could use some help in setting reasonable goals and
understanding why some replacements are needed. Not looking to unsolder each
cap/resistor and measure it vs its original rating.
So, my thoughts/questions include:
-replacing the 2 line with a 3 line ac cord ( and bypass each side to ground
with .05 disk ceramics?)
-fusing the primary of the xfo....and any place else?
- why replace paper caps that "look good"
-why replace black beauties that look good?
-any likely spots to look for resistors that may have changed value to a
degree
where it really matters, and should be replaced?
-others suggestions?
Advice is appreciated
de Bob
PS Actually, this is fun , but my fingers keep getting in the way......
My goals are:
