[Hallicrafters] re: Unwanted chassis hole

I should state that I'm quite certain that the person that performed the unwanted surgery on this radio first attempted to mount the electrolytic on top of the chassis, but finding that the hole that was punched out was a tad smaller than the diameter of the electrolytic can, ended up mounting it on the underside of the chassis. Which made me wonder why someone would put an electrolytic there in the first place. After studying the schematic I can see that he's switched the #80 rectifier tube for something else, think it was a 5Y3(too lazy to go upstairs and check). Hmmmm, could this be a modification that was suggested by Hallicrafters well after the production of the unit! I've read in some of the old archives of guys having to undo what previous owners had done. I suppose no one thought that these radios would someday become very fashionable and collectable! I suppose that restoration is indeed a "learning process".
