[Hallicrafters] Unwanted chassis holes!

How greatly, does an "owner drilled" hole in a chassis affect the value of a radio. While going over one of my Hallicrafters, I noticed a hole, the size of a tube socket hole (approx. 1-1/14 inches in diameter) and under the chassis is an electolytic capacitor, mounted so the top of the cap is flush with the hole. Comparing it to pics of a "regular" chassis, I realized that it was not done by the factory. The hole cannot be seen from the outside unless you open the lid and gaze down. After thinking about this for a few hours I thought that I might place a "slug" with the same dimensions in the hole and solder it in after cleaning the surfaces with acid etc. Then if need be, try to blend it in with whatever methods I can come up with. The hole is clean. I would appreciate your comments. This radio will be in my collection and not for sale, unless I have an opportunity to upgrade somewhere down the road. Thanking you ahead of time!
