First, let me state that the paints are enamel, not lacquer as many have
suggested. Please read what follows from N0ALO Lynn Brock.

The paints can be a real pain. Consistant color tint from a supplier
is a problem. I know it drove Rob Hummel nuts towards the end, and
it sure drove me up the wall. Other problem was Heath and Hallicrafters
ran the whole range of tint from one production run to another.
I remember Rob Hummel telling me that he counted 18 different shades
of green that they used on just one unit. I ran into that with
Hallicrafters in the SR series. Talking on the phone with one customer
while trying to work out a problem, he looked at the top and bottom
covers and they were alot different from each other.

I always tried to mix the paint for the geography and season, within reason.
(fast, medium and slow) to the time of year and area of the country
as much as possible. It's difficult to judge as just a weather change
from dry to damp weather from one day to the next can make a difference.

When it goes into a spray can, you have no choice and those can come
with pressure and reducer already in them. That's the only way you can
get them. All the paints that Rob, myself and Mike deal with are acrilic
enamales. No lacquers!!!!

I hope this puts the issue to rest -
