[Hallicrafters] Panadaptor Report

John, and other Halli dudes:
I have the Panoramic Corp version, which is electrically the same
as a Halli SP-44. I bet Panoramic built the set for Halli and H just put
their silk screen on the front panel. Even the two manuals are virtually
the same. H just added a few more pages, like a nice parts list and a
chassis layout. I got the Pan Corp manual off BAMA and from same site
got the additional H pages.
Mine had a bunch of bad paper caps so I replaced all axial caps
except for postage stamps. Many resistors read high, some quite hi, and
even the pots are high.
Mine is running a little hot in the power transformer on my wall
power which is typically 125 vac here. When I back it down to 110, it
seems to run cool enuf. I may need to put it on a bucking transformer or
some other reduction scheme.
I am getting a trace that functions well, but is dim, and has the
odd feature of having three almost similar traces. I have a new CRT
ordered so I will find out if my present one is the source of the
dimness. I have the HV line cleaned up, but still want to spec out all
the resistors eventually.
I hooked it up the plate of the mixer tube in a BC radio. It does
its thing, but dimly and somewhat out of alignment. I will get back to
it later when the new crt arrives.
Thanks to everyone who has offered help so far. When I get back to
it, I will issue another progress report.
