[Hallicrafters] Bristol Wrenches -- Topic Put to Bed

Thanks all around to the many who offered moral support, suggestions,
and even a few choice curses, which seemed to help. For me, the bottom
line is that Bristol screws are more trouble than they're worth. For
such a simple application, Allen screws seem more than adequate.
Bristol screws, at least for holding on knobs, is, IMHO, plain old
overkill.

But at the end of the day, my sweet old S-85 is sitting in front of me
alive and well...and with a freshly strung bandspread dial cord. But
I'd like to talk to the genius who engineered the mechanical aspects of
the S-85. In order to do a simple restringing job, it's necessary to
take off 7 knobs, and remove the nuts and washers from four toggle
switches and a phone connector. Then the front panel has to be removed
from the chassis. Next both frequency dials have to be removed. VOILA!
Now...one can begin the restringing! And then reverse all the procedure
above. Gotta be a better way.

Still...the saccharine smell of success hangs heavy in the old shack
tonight, and I am...at last..............content. *grin*

Night, all! Sincerest thanks to the gang.

73,

Ron - K5MVR
