[Hallicrafters] Join Sunday HCI 20 Meter Net!

John,

I no longer have the assistance of Craig Winchar, VE4WI in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada as my back up NCS and primary relay site. Hopefully he will be able to
resolve the issues that are currently preventing him from assisting with Net
operations, but only time will tell. He is a talented and very experienced
vintage Hallicrafters operator and I have often relied on his technical wisdom.
My talent is in creative organization, showmanship (thirty years on stage) and
communications skills. My technical skill is modest.

Because I have no dependable relay station, and due to propagation
unpredictability, it may no longer be possible to continue with the Net. Keep in
mind, that many check in from within my 20 meter skip zone, and even with three
antenna arrays, I simply can not hear them. I must have a relay there to hear
them and allow them to participate in the Net also.

The other issue is that I am tired, John. I have done every single Net every
single weekend since March 1999. I have not missed a single one. Think about it.
I need a break now and then and I need somebody to step up and take the NCS spot
when I simply need the day off. This requires a commitment that most people no
longer are willing to make nowadays. Not just to Ham radio, but any cause.
People simply do not like to be tied down, they want to come and go as they
please. After working a job all week, who can fault them for wanting their
weekends free?

Nonetheless, the blind energizer bunny is getting low on energy. Some is due to
health issues, some is simple fatigue. I love doing the Nets John, but I am also
human. Contrary to some news reports! (grin) I need some help in order to
continue and I sincerely hope it is forthcoming. This is NOT a feel sorry for
dialogue, just the simple facts. We all reacha point when we can no longer
continue doing what we have, unless we have some assistance. There is no
question the HCI Nets have been very successful, and provide an on air forum for
many venues, radio related and otherwise. They are needed and I hope can
continue. But to do so requires several people willing to step forward and make
themselves available as needed.

Thank you for your concern John. Time will tell if the needed volunteers emerge
or not. Let us hope so.

Duane Fischer, W8DBF
