[Hallicrafters] radio goes dead during sweep

Mike, It is likely that a plate or some plates in the tuning condenser are touching each other as you turn them. Do you hear a little crackling just before the sound disappears ? I have had complete success in realigning them, but it sometimes takes a lot of patience. My tools are a plastic picnic knife and a popsicle stick. Sliding one or the other down between the touching plates and GENTLY twisting or GENTLY rocking them away from each other will do the trick. But, remember one of Newton's laws while you twist and rock, that for every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction ! Plenty of light and a soft touch....Good luck.
