[Hallicrafters] SR-400A Serial Numbers ?

Another list member and I have been comparing our 
SR-400A's.  It's interesting that one has a chassis number 
date in late 1970 but has a higher serial number then my 
radio that has a chassis date in mid 1971.

Comments ?

I invision rolls of those paper serial number tags being 
used to identify individual units as they passed 
inspection... not issued sequentially.  I suspect the 
chassis tag is a better sign of the year of manufacure.
