I took delivery of the SR-400A and power supply that I two weeks ago I had
inquired about (BTW a big thanks to the many who replied with their
experiences and advice) yesterday after driving halfway to Mpls to meet the
seller.
The radio and power supply were originally sold by Henry Radio in CA to a
Mr. E. KO??S (label faded and I can't read 2 letters) on 579 Amherst St in
Buffalo, NY. I checked QRZ and can't find a ham of near that name at that
address so either he's a SK or moved. Sure would've be a kick to let him
know I have his radio. It's great to have the entire station just as it was
originally sold.
Station itself is as close to "new" as one could imagine. The radio and
power supply were in the original shipping boxes and the original manuals
were also present.... the HA-6 was installed and the original hand mic is
there too. There are really no blemishes at all on either and I couldn't be
happier.
The seller had asked me if for a small extra expense I'd like the desk mic
and a HA-8 he had. I agreed and these are like new as well. The HA-8 has
the original manual and remote sensor. The mic appears to be a Turner 454-C
or X badged as an EF Johnson and is in perfect condition too. I was
surprised when the seller also included some extras .... an entire set of
NOS tubes for the radio (including new RCA 6KD6's), a spare new HA-6 fan and
several microphone connectors "in case" I wanted to try new mics !
The seller took the time to explain the history of the radio to me etc. and
he seemed really glad I was so interested in the radio. What a great person
! I've only had a chance so far to try the rig for a few minutes.... first
impression is a VERY hot receiver, everything appears to work as it should,
full rated power out..... can't wait to get it on the desk operating
position and try it out futher !
Woo Hoo !!
