[Hallicrafters] S-20R SCHEMATIC QUESTION

I just finished building the 1629 eye tube project from: http://www.antiqueradio.org/magiceye.htm I connected the # 3 pin wire from S-meter accessory socket ( AVC bus connection) to junction of R33 (A.V.C.decoupling resistor) & 2nd IF Transformer off of 6SK7 2nd IF amplifier. Am I correct on this connection for AVC Bus?? I am getting all green in eye tube. It is responding to signal strength -but no dark area,in other words where it should be dark is a light shade of green & when stronger signal comes in it saturates  to a darker green.The tube is a NOS RCA 1629 but slightly loose in base after pulled in & out of socket so I dont know if that is problem but dont think so. Any thoughts on this problem?Thanks for any reply.
