[Hallicrafters] Dial Cord

Hi John:

Thanks for the "lead" on the "leader". ;-)

I've just about run out of dial cord I got from Radio Shack before they
discontinued it altogether.

Does this Cortland stuff have to be pre-stretched like the AES cord?

The braiding can help with traction, particularly around the tuning knob
shaft, however if it's too coarse the feel of the tuning will be rough as
the multiple turns come in contact with each other and the mechanism may
even be a bit noisy. Is that line fairly smooth?

The better dial cord has a stretch resistant core of some fiber, such as
fiberglas, and is radially wound with a very thin covering (at least I
think so.) Is there any particular type of fishing line that's made like
that?

Anyway, for 2 bucks, I'll pick some up. Of course, I'll probably "wind
up" with a bagful of assorted fishing line for the laboratory. Igor --
prepare the forceps, hemostats and tweezers!

Barry
