[Hallicrafters] Sizing of Electrolytics

Jim,

Sure! Most electrolytics have a tolerance of +80/-20% to begin with.
Someone may tell you that the larger value is an issue, but I can assure you
both as an analog/RF engineer and from personal experience on many BA
receivers that all will be fine. By the way, I usually either just add
axial lead caps under the chassis, or, on a perfect set, gut the old can and
install new [and MUCH smaller] axial lead caps in the old can to totally
preserve the appearance. 73.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Sizing of Electrolytics

I am sure this question has been asked numerous times, so apologize for
asking the N + 1 the time.

I need to replace the filter capacitor in my S40A and am wondering what
latitude is permissible on the value of the electrolytic. There is a 30
- 10 - 10 in the S40A and I have a 40 - 40 - 40 available. Do I dare?

Thanks.

Jim
