To offset the crumpled radios via UPS shipping stories, I have a minor
miracle story to relate. I received an HT-33A shipped via UPS from
Texas to Illinois a while back. The amp was placed in a microwave oven
heavy cardboard box, with various sized chunks of styrofoam pieces,
crumpled paper and peanuts tossed in with seemingly random order. A
sheet of plywood was set on top of the amp plus packing before the lid
was closed. No double box. When the package arrived three of the
seams were split and one of the hand-hold reinforced cutouts on one end
was ripped off. But the amp survived, nothing bent or broken, although
the PL-172 was shaken loose out of its socket. All I can figure is that
the thing was so dang heavy the handlers had no choice but to baby it a
little. If you had tilted the box 90 degrees the amp would have just
slid out!

So just maybe, there is a one in a lifetime chance that your worlds most
improperly packed radio will arrive just fine. Problem is now I seem to
have used up my one chance. :)
