Windex can be "bad stuff" to many things that may be on our boatanchors.
Most Windex products have ammonia in them, plus various alcohols.  Remember
how our mothers & wives use ammonia to cut grease & cleanup the kitchen,
etc?  It's good for that, not good for "delicate" paints, decals, etc.  If
you have used it without a problem, you've been lucky to use it on something
that's not susceptible to it's ingredients, but many are.  Look at the
warnings on the label about surfaces to avoid, test in inconspicuous place,
etc.
    And yes, even plain water can do damage to decals, some dial paints,
etc.
