I like to use a decent (but not expensive) DVM for general purpose
troubleshooting and an Analog VTVM for alignments so you can see the
needle "wobble". I find troubleshooting is a lot quicker with an
autoranging meter. I use one of the "Better" RadioShack true RMS DVM's
for that purpose as I find the Freq counter, though not super accurate
handy for some audio uses around the shack and the Capacitance ranges
handy for "matching" capacitors for projects (such as audio filters where
you want to match caps for cascaded ranges).
