[Hallicrafters] Substitute antenna coils

Hello all
In light of some of the posts here (and I'm sure my coil is bad ) I wonder
if anyone here has tried one of the universal antenna coils.  Miller and
others used to make them and Antique Electronic supply has them in stock.
It looks to me like one BIG advantage would be that it is adjustable so that
you can set the tracking from the low to the high end of the BCB.  And if
Hallicrafters did intentially reduce the coupling to "de-sense" the receiver
then these might significantly outperform the originals.

While not physically identical, with a little care you should be able to
mount these puppies on heavy gauge bus wire so that no mounting hole would
need drilling.

What think the gurus here?  (Or am I a blasphemer).
