It was an NC-173 National receiver as described in the book and in several 
QST magazine articles.  It was run on batteries and didn't give too good a 
performance and, if I remember correctly, it quit working quite awhile before 
the end of the voyage.  They didn't have any means to transmit and just used 
the receiver for news and weather broadcasts.  I've read the book at least 
three times and am about to do so again!
